ABOUT US

Who We Are

Motivated by the urgent need to support vulnerable and underserved communities in Cameroon and across Africa, Luma Fritz Likanjo and a team of passionate change makers founded the Environmental Management and Livelihood Initiative (EMLI) in 2018. From the beginning, EMLI has focused on empowering marginalized groups—widows, orphans, displaced families, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable youth—through innovative programs that strengthen both livelihoods and environmental resilience. Today, while EMLI remains a trusted partner in responding to humanitarian needs, its work extends beyond relief efforts to building lasting community resilience. Through sustainable agriculture, access to clean water and sanitation, economic empowerment, and environmental stewardship, EMLI supports communities to thrive, not just survive. EMLI’s vision is a world where every individual, no matter their background, lives with dignity, security, and opportunity, in a sustainable environment nurtured for future generations.

EMLI is a development and humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization established in Cameroon in 2018.

Our Approach

How we work

EMLI’s work is anchored around four core operational and programmatic priorities: Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action; Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment; Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH); and Humanitarian Assistance for Displaced and Vulnerable Communities. In addition, EMLI is committed to Building Organisational Excellence to enhance the impact and sustainability of our work. We work hand-in-hand with communities, recognizing and building on their strengths, traditional knowledge, and local capacities. By strengthening community systems and fostering inclusive participation, we help create the foundation for lasting resilience and dignified livelihoods. Throughout all our programs, EMLI prioritizes strategic partnerships—collaborating with local authorities, grassroots organizations, international agencies, and private sector actors—to enhance the relevance, reach, and effectiveness of our interventions. We believe that collective action is key to addressing the complex challenges of poverty, environmental degradation, and social exclusion.

Our Advocacy

Advocacy Strategy

Advocating for Resilient Communities and a Sustainable Future

At EMLI, we see advocacy as a powerful tool to drive meaningful change in pursuit of our vision: a world where every individual lives with dignity, thrives in harmony with nature, and has access to the services and opportunities necessary for a better life. Our advocacy efforts are focused on influencing action at local, national, and international levels to address the root causes of poverty, environmental degradation, and social exclusion. We work to amplify the voices of marginalized groups—especially women, youth, persons with disabilities, and displaced families—ensuring they are heard in decisions that affect their lives and futures. Through research, policy dialogue, capacity building, and strategic partnerships, we champion sustainable agriculture, equitable access to WASH services, environmental stewardship, and inclusive development. EMLI advocates for the removal of barriers to well-being and calls for stronger policies and investments that promote resilience, protect natural ecosystems, and create fairer, greener communities. At EMLI, advocacy is not just an activity—it is a commitment to justice, inclusion, and sustainability for all.

ACCOUNTABILITY

EMLI is committed to the highest standards of accountability, transparency and integrity across our organisation.
